This year for our Year 6’s has been centred around the waiata and pepeha that was created by Whaea Whitney. Our Mahora School Pepeha has been brought to life in a stunning visual form on our pou, combining both paint and crochet to honour our whakapapa and the stories of our place. Each element of the design reflects a line of our pepeha — our maunga, our awa, our iwi, and our kura — woven together to represent the unique identity of Mahora School.
Mahora ki runga i raro - Mahora is above and below, learning happens everywhere.
Mahora ki roto i waho - Mahora is inside and outside. It acknowledges the balance of our well being and the relationships we build both in school and in the community.
Mahoranuiātea ki te here tangata - where diversity is embraced and ties are strengthened.
The year 6’s are all represented on our pou by the flags painted a third of the way up with the many nationalities we have in our Year group.
The blend of painted detail and hand-crafted crochet symbolises the interconnectedness of our past, present, and future, celebrating the diversity and creativity of our school community. This pou stands as a proud reminder of who we are, where we come from, and the shared values that guide us forward.
Mā te huruhuru ka rere te manu — Adorn the bird with feathers so it may fly. As a kura, we continue to nurture our tamariki so they may soar.
