BOARD OF TRUSTEES MEETING 17 December 2011 (Website Report)

PRINCIPAL’S REPORT

Administration National Standards; Information graphs showing the pleasing profile of the School was presented and discussed at the meeting;

Professional Student Management System- the new programme called ‘Assembly’ is now functioning, but has a few teething problems;

Year 5 Camp at Omatua Week 5;

Property Hall Improvements – plans have gone out to tender;

Sandpit – Two quotes received, a couple of points need clarification before construction can begin;

STAFF DEVELOPMENT

  • ICT – The Magpie cluster has begun Professional Development for 2011 with training days for the Lead Teachers. Next Tuesday the first Cluster Workshops will be held at Parkvale.

PROFESSIONAL

  • Six teachers are undertaking the ‘Incredible Years’ Programme, the first session began today

CURRICULUM

  • ‘Inquiry Learning’ has begun in 2011 with all Teams looking at ‘Water’. Teachers are currently reviewing the Mahora Curriculum Statements for Inquiry Learning and for Integrated Studies

ACTIVITIES

  • Year 5s attendance at the Earthquake Commemoration Ceremony in Napier on 4 Feb
  • Year 6s spent a week at Pandora on the Optimist Yachting Programme
  • Years 1 & 2 enjoyed a visit from the Dog Safety Officer on 10 Feb
  • Years 3 & 4 went to Napier on a Beach Education Trip last Friday
  • A representative from the Aquarium came to speak to the children about Seaweek
  • The Black Caps will be starting playground duties next Monday

COMMUNICATIONS

  • Teacher, Parent Meetings were held yesterday

SPORT

  • Summer sports have started up:
    • Cricket on Friday & Saturday
    • T-ball on Wednesdays
    • Miniball @ the Sports Centre (3 teams)
    • Swimming Sports 25 February
    • Interschool Swimming Sports are coming up
    • The PTA Fun Run and barbecue tea is on Wednesday 16 March
    • A duathlon and triathlon are planned for 11 February TBC
